This grumpy guy ran away from multiple homes and was rescued from the streets many times until he was adopted by a woman. After 6 months of boundaries-respecting, cautious advances and slow progress, one day, his dad woke up with him sleeping deeply, sprawled on his feet, snoring away. They bonded and when the woman and Winston's dad separated, she allowed him to keep the cat since it was in his best interest. He had many opportunities to run away, and stayed with his dad by choice. He was fiercly independent, irascible, and also silly and loving. He loved car rides, kittens and walks, but above all, he loved his dad.
When his mind started to go around his 15th year of life, the last thing he held on to was the love he had for his dad. When he did not recognize anything else, he still propped up if his dad came in the room, and gazed into his eyes lovingly. A truly one-of-a-kind being, who will be loved and remembered forever by those who knew him.
He died peacefully in his dad's arms with a belly full of rotisserie chicken and snacky tubes on June 6, 2023 at 4:30pm MT.
